- Roxborough Running Club
The Roxborough Running Club is a 501 (c) (3) charitable non-profit that has been registered with the state of Colorado since 2018. (I actually started organizing races in 2014.) In 2023, in addition to runs and races, we have expanded to include a kids' summer running camp, a middle school cross-country meet at Goddard Middle School, and we will be participating in Colorado Gives Day in December. If you have been running in the area for a while, you are probably aware that runners often run with more than one club. We have welcomed runners from Colorado Masters Running/Racewalking Association, Black Men Run, Firepit Runners, Phidippides Running Club, and more!
The mission of the Roxborough Running Club is to promote the benefits of an active lifestyle, to provide opportunities for training, racing, and socializing that are open to athletes of all ages and abilities, and to foster national/international sports competition.
Sometimes I'm asked, "Why free races?", and my answer is, "Why not?" When you pay $80 (or more!) to run a race, you are paying for a t-shirt, a timing chip, maybe some live music, and other overhead whether you want all of those things or not. Personally, I have plenty of shirts from races I've run, I time myself even when I have a chip, and music doesn't really motivate me.
When I first started running in the '60's, you showed up a few minutes before the race started, paid $5, and got a handmade race bib with your number written in Magic Marker. No shirts, no loudspeakers, no rock bands, no timing chips, and no online registration or race results.
If it's worth it to you to pay the $50, that's fine. (I run those races, too!) But if it's not, now you have an alternative. You can participate in a "no frills" race, and save your money for shoes or other gear.
So...I don't organize races to make money. I organize races to share my passion for running with others, to encourage them to experience new running venues, to meet like-minded folks, and perhaps make some new running friends.
Run free!
