Boulder’s Guenter Wins Ironman 70.3 Happy Valley

Central Pennsylvania’s beautiful landmarks and stunning scenery played host to the inaugural edition of IRONMAN® 70.3® Pennsylvania triathlon on Sunday, July 2. Participating athletes were treated to an IRONMAN 70.3 journey through Happy Valley and the iconic Penn State University campus that included rolling hills of central Pennsylvania. In the age group men’s race, Matthew Guenter (Boulder, Colo.), in the 25-29 age group, was the first to cross the line with a time of 4:19:30. Caroline Moyer (Malvern, Pa.), also in the 25-29 age group, crossed the finish line first in the women’s race with a time of 5:00:55.

More than 2,000 athletes from the ages of 18-77 hailing from 43 U.S. States and 15 countries, regions and territories embarked on a race through the region beginning with a 1.2-mile swim in Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir at Bald Eagle State Park. Athletes transition to the bike for a scenic 56-mile ride through the beautiful rolling hills of Centre and Clinton Counties, culminating with a 13.1-mile run on the campus of Penn State University including a unique finish line experience for athletes inside Beaver Stadium, home to the Penn State University Nittany Lions.
