Tailwind Nutrition athletes had a weekend that will go down in history at the Western States 100 with Courtney Dauwalter of Leadville dominating the race, setting an impressively fast course record with a time of 15:29:33 on Saturday. Other Tailwind athletes had amazing performances this weekend with Tyler Green finishing in second place with a time of 15:04:09, Eszter Csillag finishing in third with a time of 17:09:20, and ultrarunning legend Pam Reed, 62-years-old, finishing in 28:52:52 and winning her age group.

Thirty-eight-year-old Dauwalter finished the course 78 minutes faster than the previous record holder, Ellie Greenwood from 2012. In 2018 Courtney won Western States with a time of 17:27.

Upon finishing, in true Courtney form, she immediately thanked all the volunteers and trail workers for helping her get to the finish line.  In her iRunFar interview, she says when asked about her historic run and how she dealt with the discomfort, “I just kept asking my legs to do one more mile and they responded.”

Earlier this month, Tailwind Nutrition introduced its newest Limited Edition Endurance Fuel flavor, ‘Dauwaltermelon’, which was created with and inspired by Courtney. The new Dauwaltermelon with Lime flavor helped fuel Courtney’s win on Saturday.

This new and refreshing flavor is a light and playful ode to the simplicity of those adventurous summer days of childhood. It provides a light, fruity watermelon taste with a hint of lime. The sports nutrition drink mix offers complete nutrition with the perfect combination of calories, electrolytes, and hydration for athletes with no need for gels, chews, bars, or salt pills.

“Courtney’s performance was jaw-dropping. I could only laugh watching the livestream seeing Corrine Malcolm, Dylan Bowman, and Billy Yang with the same reaction, running out of things to say about what was unfolding and almost not believing what we were seeing,” said Maggie Guterl, Tailwind Nutrition Athletes and Events Manager. “The crew reports Courtney absolutely nailed her nutrition (of which from Michigan Bluff on was solely liquid) and destroyed the splits they had for her. I mean what is in Dauwaltermelon with Lime? We are also so proud of Tyler Green’s consistent and gutsy performance as well as Eszter Csillag’s first Western States. To podium this year truly solidifies your reputation as World Class!”

Fresh off her win, Dauwalter will take on the Hardrock 100 in Silverton, Colo. in a short three weeks, on July 14. Last year, she won Hardrock while setting a new course record.

Dauwaltermelon with Lime is available in 4-stick single serving packs (MSRP: $9.99 USD) and is available while supplies last at select retailers and the Tailwind website. Tailwind-themed Courtney swag is also  available on Tailwind’s website, including trucker hats (MSRP: $30 USD), water bottles (MSRP: $8 USD), and shirts (MSRP: $30 USD).
