Silverton Alpine and Kendall Mountain Runs a success

The Silverton Alpine Marathons kicked off the weekend of running in the San Juan Mountains last weekend.

Starting on Saturday with a 50K, trail marathon and 8 Mile, 168 athletes took to the trails above town for a scenic romp through the mountains. Scott Schrader of Littleton (4:19:32) and Maria Sylte of Houston, TX (5:16:25) took top honors in the ultramarathon. Drew Frehs of Flagstaff, AZ finished only a couple minutes ahead of female winner Brittany Charboneau of Denver in the marathon (3:33:24 to 3:35:30). Ben Hearon of Ridgeland, MO was the first runner across the line in the 8 mile, running 51:37. Hayley Pollack of Scottsdale, AZ was the first female in the 8 Mile.

On Sunday, the annual Kendall Mountain Run took 144 runners from town to the summit of Kendall Mountain and back down, climbing 4,000′!

Seth Demoor of Englewood took the 12 mile route in 1:37:59 for the men, while Allie McLaughlin of Colorado Springs led the ladies to the finish in 2:02:03.
