Mild morning temperatures lead to fast times this past Saturday at Frosty’s Frozen Five and Ten at Hudson Gardens in Littleton. The second event in Colorado Runner’s Winter Distance Series attracted hundreds of runners and walkers to the clear, flat, and fast South Platte River Trail for a 5M, 10M, or both!

Participants were treated to a fun morning that included the two race distances, post-race party with vendors, food, and beverages, and an awards ceremony honoring the top finishers. The overall male and female winner in each race received a $50 gift card towards shoes, and the top three finishers in each age group received gift certificates from Runner’s Roost. In addition, special awards were given to the fastest male and female doublers.

The men’s 10M was close, with all three top finishers crossing the line within one minute of each other. Yevgeniy Vinogradskiy came in first in 58:04, with Ryan Herzon coming in a close second in 58:19, and Billy Mertens rounding out the podium in 58:58.

The women’s 10M saw Adrienne Barry finish first in 1:01:23. Second place belonged to Shannon Kinney in 1:02:48, with Haley Williamson finishing third in 1:05:43.

In the men’s 5M, Mason Frank took the win in 26:42, with Seth Kelly finishing second in 27:53, and Eddie Perez rounding out the top three in 28:39.

Ashley Brasovan took top honors for the ladies in 29:24, followed by Taylor Hoover in 32:10, and Sarah Bay in 34:19.

For the doublers (runners participating in both the 5M and 10M), men’s winner Chris Hall had the shortest time in a combined 1:30:50, and women’s winner Candy Granger finished both races in 1:59:52.

Frosty’s Frozen Five and Ten benefited the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless. The next and final race in the Winter Distance Series is the Snowman Stampede on February 24th. Visit the WDS website for more details.
