Cool, fall temperatures, a setting sun, and pleasant conditions provided the perfect backdrop for the Hoofin’ It Through the Hollows 5K and after-party. Almost 300 participants came out to deKoevend Park in Centennial – some dressed in their best costumes and others just looking forward to a festive event with a host of activities on deck.

A costume contest kicked off the festivities, with multiple categories up for judging: Best Group, Best Little Monster (aka kiddo 14 years old or younger), Best Owner/Dog Duo, Best Couple, Best Homemade Costume, and Most Original. Next was a free kids fun run sprint, followed by the headlining 5K along the High Line Canal.

In the men’s race, Tristan Mitchell took top honors in 17:40, followed close behind by Eric Monda, who finished up in second in 17:59. Corey Barringer rounded out the top three in 18:13.

The women’s race saw 12-year old Ava Mitchell break the tape first in 19:56 (unsure if there is any relation to men’s winner Tristan Mitchell). Second place also belonged to a fellow 12-year old, with Brianna Hoffman coming in at 20:23. Mary Sullivan finished third in 20:42.

After the race, participants were treated to a post-race party with S’more roasting sponsored by Trader Joe’s, a Beer Garden sponsored by HalfPenny, and an awards ceremony honoring the race’s top finishers.

The Hoofin’ It Through the Hollows 5K is part of the South Suburban Race Series.
