More than 54,000 runners signed up for the 33rd running of the BolderBoulder; 50,000 were projected to finish yesterday’s celebratory Memorial Day 10k run.
Citizen’s Race
The men’s citizens race was won by CSU graduate Jeremy Freed who finished nearly 40 seconds ahead of the second place finisher Patrick Rizzo (31:09). Arvada’s Michael Aish ran 31:36 for third place.
In the women’s race, Boulder resident Akane Mutazaki, 25, finished first in 36:09. Nicole Feest of Fort Collins ran 36:18 for second. Nicole Aish ran 36:36 bringing in another third place finish for the Aish’s.
Team Colorado
Jason Hartmann (pictured) was the first finisher for Team Colorado, running 30:39 and placing eighth in the elite race, just seconds behind Team USA member Ryan Hall. Teammates Fernando Cabada was 13th, running 30:54.62; Brian Medigovich was 15th overall in 31:02.27.
The women’s Team Colorado was led by Adriana Pirtea who ran 35:08.24 for eighth place overall. Colleen DeReuck (also pictured) was 15th in 36:38.86 and Zoila Gomez ran 36:44.63 for 16th place.
Team USA
Boulder’s James Carney of Boulder took fifth and U.S. Olympian Ryan Hall, coming off a fourth-place finish at the Boston Marathon, took seventh for Team USA. Teammate Aaron Braun placed twelfth. The team placed third in the International Team Challenge behind Ethiopia and Kenya.
Ethiopia’s Belete Assefa won the men’s elite race running 29:22:56, finishing five seconds ahead of teammate Solomon Gonfa.
The women’s Team USA advanced in placement from last year’s race netting 19 points and placing a strong second to Ethiopia. Ethiopia won the team title with 17 points. Kenya took third with 26 points.
Amy Hastings was fourth overall and first for Team USA running 34:19. Renee Metivier Baillie placed 6th in 34:53. Magdalena Lewy-Boulet was 9th in 35:09.
Kenya’s Lineth Chepkurui was the first place woman.
Wheelchair Division
Aaron Pike and Shirley Reilly were the male and female winners of the wheelchair division.
