Colorado Runner’s Own Connilee Walter Wins Colorado Marathon

Colorado Runner web editor Connilee Walter (of Colorado Springs) won the women’s race at Sunday’s Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins. Her winning time of 3:03:20 was a minute and a half faster then the runner up, Connie Nielsen of Omaha. Macy Latter, 30, of Fort Collins was third in 3:08:41.

Walter, 38, a mother of five, finished 26th overall in a field of 986.

Fort Collins resident Steve Folkerts charged away from the field early to win in 2:29:20, about more than 10 minutes ahead of second-place finisher Zach Crandall of Fort Collins. Phil Latter of Fort Collins was third in 2:41:05.

The Colorado Marathon is one of the fastest marathon’s in the country, with a course that flows downhill through scenic Poudre Canyon for nearly its entire distance, finishing in Old Town Fort Collins.

In the half marathon, Michael Chavez and Matt Lavassiur finished together in 1:07:43, crushing the old course record by nearly three minutes! Melody Fairchild took an 18 second victory over Anne Toth in the female division. There were 1,232 finishers in the half marathon.

The 10K saw 611 finishers with Wendy Mader taking the outright victory in 41:15 while Winston Sauber was the first male to finish. Henry Raymond (19:37) and Jinny Mortensen (21:41) led 266 people across the 5K finish line.
