Comcowich, Smith Win Estes Park Marathon; Terer, Weprin Win Half Marathon; Kolosso, Krause Win 10K; Giordano, Tveter Win 5K

From Texas to California to even Norway, runners from all over converged on Estes Park this past weekend for the Estes Park Marathon, Half Marathon, 10K and 5K.

Participants and spectators alike were treated to mild weather and great race conditions.  All race courses took runners in and around the Estes Park region, offering one-of-a-kind views of the Rocky Mountains and small town.

In the men’s marathon, 21-year old Isaac Comcowich took top honors in 3:12:12.  Denver’s Thomas Kuhl finished second in 3:17:37, and 21-year Thomas Stevens followed in third in 3:19:45.

The women’s marathon saw 29-year old Rebecca Smith of Lakewood grab the win in 3:37:50, with 43-year old Anita Fromm close on her heals, finishing second in 3:38:53.  Laura Nichols of Colorado Springs rounded out the top three in 3:48:14.

In the men’s half marathon, 37-year old Geofrey Terer crossed the finish line first in 1:11:31, over 13 minutes faster than second place finisher Lenny Laraio of Centennial.  Laraio finished in 1:24:54.  Filling out the podium was 28-year old David Schulteis of Loveland who finished third in 1:27:09.

In the women’s half marathon, 22-year old Torie Weprin of Gunnison grabbed the win in 1:37:53.  Estes Park’s own Lisa Marshall, 44, finished second in 1:47:49, just seconds before third place finisher Laura Dietz of Fort Collins who crossed the line in 1:47:52.

The men’s 10K saw 20-year old Seth Kolosso of Pueblo West take the win in 22:46.  Loveland’s Kevin Lewis came in second in 41:03, with 18-year old Jonathan Winfield rounding out the top three in 42:22.

In the women’s 10K, Lakewood’s Kendelle Krause finished first in 44:13.  16-year old Melissa Menghini of Fenton, MO crossed the line next in 48:04, and 19-year old Amy Becker of Niskayuna, NY took the final podium spot in 48:17.

In the men’s 5K, Greg Giordano of Denver took top honors in 19:39.  Fort Morgan’s Ben Corchado came in second in 20:52, with 16-year old Grant Garrison from Westmoreland, TX rounding out the top three in 21:37.

The women’s 5K champion was Line Tveter of Oslo, Norway.  Tveter finished in 21:34, also good for third overall.  46-year old Tellie Cobos of Frisco, TX crossed the line in second in 23:57, and 16-year old Celeste Morales of Pine Bluffs, WY grabbed the final podium spot in 25:22.
