Athletes ranging from ages 10 to 78 descended upon Leadville this weekend to take part in the Life Time Silver Rush 50 Run presented by La Sportiva and the Life Time Silver Rush 50 MTB Presented by Kinetik. More than 1,900 competitors from 46 states and six countries took to the starting line to test their physical demands in two of the series most intense and majestic race events.
The Silver Rush 50-mile Trail Run and MTB races saw athletes conquer an out-and-back course with over 7,500 feet of elevation gain, taking them through the historic mining district on Leadville’s east side. Beginning with a nearly 10-mile climb, athletes reached more than 12,000 feet at the races highest point. The weekend also featured 15-mile run and mountain bike races, which started and finished on the same 50-mile course. Racers in the 15-mile events reached an elevation gain of more than 1,600 feet, with its peak at 10,900 feet. Back for a second year, the Silver Rush Juniors 5K Run gave nearly thirty runners ages 10-18 the opportunity to take part in the weekend festivities. Nearly one-hundred participants registered for both 50-mile events, with the goal of finishing and earning themselves Silver King and Silver Queen honors.
“Yet another phenomenal Silver Rush weekend in Leadville,” said Tamira Jenlink, Leadville Race Series event manager. “This weekends is all about family, with both run and mountain bike events to entice and challenge all ages, levels and desires. From last ass over the pass, to a record smashing Silver Rush 50-mile run on the women’s side to an all-around fantastic podium showing from our juniors, it was a tremendous effort by all. Congratulations to all our athletes – we look forward to seeing you back very soon!”
