Many of the nation’s top high school cross country runners competed at the Garmin RunningLane Cross Country Championships at John Hunt Park on December 3. The course is typically flat and fast, but unfortunately heavy rains made for a muddy and slow course this year. Many runners hopes of a personal best cross country 5K time were dashed due to the course conditions.
In the girl’s Gold race, Colorado surprised everyone with a 1-2 sweep. The first-place team victory went to Mountain Vista of Highlands Ranch. They took the RunningLane National title with 124 points. In second place, Colorado captured the podium spot with Cherry Creek. Additionally Fossil Ridge took fourth to give Colorado three squads in the top-four.
In the boy’s gold race, The Classical Academy came in fifth, with Niwot just behind in sixth. Denver South’s Ryan Olree finished seventh as an individual runner in 15:21.
