Courtney Dauwalter is the women’s UltraRunner of the Year for 2021. Dauwalter won six races during the year – two of them outright – and set a course record at UTMB, Europe’s most prestigious ultra. She also smashed the course record at the San Juan Solstice 50-miler. This is the third consecutive time that Dauwalter has won the UROY award. She lives in Leadville, Colorado, with her husband, Kevin Schmidt.
Jim Walmsley is the men’s UltraRunner of the Year for 2021. Walmsley set an American record for 100k in January, clocking 6:09:26, just 12 seconds outside the world record. He also won Western States for the third straight time and set a course record at the Ultra-Trail Cape Town 100k in South Africa. This marks the fifth straight UROY for Walmsley, the most ever by a man – only the legendary Ann Trason has more. Walmsley lives in Flagstaff, Arizona, with his partner, Jessica Brazeau.

Annie Hughes is the third ranked female for 2021. Just two years into her ultra career, Hughes won five races during the year, including the Leadville Trail 100 and the Moab 240. A native of Wisconsin, her family moved to Buena Vista, Colorado, five years ago. She now lives up the road in Leadville, where she is a student at Colorado Mountain College.
Sabrina Stanley checks in at number six for the women. A mountain specialist who excels in difficult terrain, Stanley won the Hardrock 100 in 2021. It was her second win at Hardrock, and this makes three straight times where she has been in the top 10 in the UROY voting. Originally from Onalaska, Washington, Stanley lives with her partner, Avery Collins, in Leadville, Colorado.
Abby Hall is ranked ninth in the 2021 UltraRunner of the Year voting. The highlight of her year was a breakthrough second place at the highly competitive Courmayeur-Champex-Chamonix (CCC) 101k race in the Alps. She also finished second at the Canyons 100K in California and Arizona’s Crown King Scramble 50K. A vegan advocate and designer, the former Abby Mitchell married Cordis Hall in 2019. The couple live in Boulder, Colorado.
Addie Bracy is ranked tenth for women in 2021. Bracy won the highly competitive Run Rabbit Run 100-miler and set a course record at the Never Summer 100K, both in Colorado. She is a coach, focusing on the mental aspects of competition. A leading advocate for diversity and inclusivity in running, Bracy lives with her partner, Corey, in Boulder, Colorado.
