Update: Due to the storm expected to move into Colorado this weekend, some events may be postponed. Check with each individual race about how they are handling the upcoming snow storm.
Runners are ready to ring in Spring with St Patrick’s Day races around the state. The luck of the Irish is with athletes this year as many St Patrick’s Day races were among the first cancelled in 2020 for Covid. One of the oldest and most well known events is the Running of the Green Lucky 7K. The event is typically held in Lodo, but has been relocated this year to Washington Park so that waves can help separate runners throughout the day.
In Colorado Springs, the 5K on St Patrick’s Day is going to take place in person. Things will be different, including a new start/finish location and staggered start times.
In Castle Rock, the Shamrock Stampede 7K and 3.3K will take place. In Highlands Ranch, the HRCA St Patrick’s Day 5K will be held. Their website says, “Grab your friends, family, running/walking shoes, your best Irish costume, and join us as we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with a festive 5K! Presented by Living the Dream Brewing Company, this year’s St. Patricks Day 5K will be the most fun anyone can have wearing green!”
If you’re in the mountains, the Vail Recreation District Krueger Family Shamrock Shuffle 5K and 10K races and the kids’ 1K fun run will celebrate all things green in the spirit of St. Patrick’s Day! Taking place on the Vail Nordic Center trails, the event includes race categories for snowshoes and Yaktrax, as well as a non-prize-eligible running shoe category.
