Colorado held its High School Cross Country Championship Races on Saturday. The races were held in Colorado Springs at the Norris Penrose Event Center. In the 5A competition, Cherry Creek’s Parker Wolfe not only won the men’s championship title, but he also set a new course record with a time of 15 minutes, 10.4 seconds, two seconds faster than Valor Christian’s Cole Sprout ran the race a year ago. It was a great accomplishment for the athlete, who had COVID-19 before the season.
Mountain Vista won the boy’s team title for the second year in a row.
Cherry Creek took the girls team title. Cherry Creek’s Riley Stewart captured the overall title with a time of 17:33.8.
In 4A, Niwot’s Zane Bergen and Green Mountain’s Grahm Tuohy-Gados were close together. Near the finish, the two got tangled and Bergen fell. He got up and finished. Tuohy-Gados crossed first, but was disqualified for impeding a runner. It meant Bergen won the state title, with a time of 15 minutes, 19.5 seconds, which despite falling, set a 4A course record.
Niwot captured the first place boy’s and girl’s team trophies.
