Olympic-bronze medalist Emma Coburn broke the Colorado mile record Saturday night. The former CU alum clocked a 4:32.7 mile at Colorado Mesa University in Grand Junction, which is the fastest mile ever run by a female on Colorado soil. The previous record was held by fellow Dani Jones of 4:36 set in 2018.

Behind Coburn were three-time NCAA champion Dani Jones and Cory Ann McGee, both of whom also ran under the previous Colorado record. Colorado Mesa University sits at 4,583 feet.

Several men tried to break the record of 4:01, set by Joe Klecker early this year. They were unsuccessful in their attempt, with Australia’s Morgan McDonald clocking a 4:02.07.

Team Boss is a Boulder-based training group. The 2020 Team Boss Colorado Mile was held as a fundraiser for the Sachs Foundation, a Colorado-based non-profit that supports Black students looking to attend college. The event raised more than $30,000.
