Did you join the thousands of Colorado runners who ran a turkey trot this Thanksgiving? After an epic Tuesday snow storm, thousands of runners rebounded to get out of the house on Thursday and make it a fun day of running before their Thanksgiving feasts.
The largest turkey trot in the state was the Mile High United Way race at Washington Park in Denver. There was quite a bit of slush to wade through, yet more than 5,000 officially timed runners finished the 2019 event.
Some courses were modified for the snow and ice, like the Parker Turkey Day 5k, which ended up going out and back on a bike path. Others encouraged people to use their discretion and consider staying home, like the Briargate YMCA turkey trot. The Pelican Lakes Turkey Trot in Windsor had to be canceled because the golf course that it is run on could not be cleared in time.
