The men’s and women’s course records fell at the Colorado USATF 5K Championships, which were held at the Pumpkin Pie 5K race at City Park in Denver. Marty Andrie of Golden raced to a 14:34 win in the men’s championship event, edging out Geoffrey Kipchumba of Colorado Springs, who finished in 14:41. The top five male runners broke the 15 minute mark and the top eight runners were all under the previous course record, thanks in part to ideal racing weather conditions.
Ivy Kibet of Colorado Springs won the women’s race in 16:32, earning the championship title, the prize money and the new course record. Lafayette’s Amy Sloan took second in 17:09 with Superior’s Molly Callahan in third in 17:34. Six women came in under 18 minutes. A notable performance was had by Rochelle Persson in 19:29 for 11th overall female and easily winning the 50-54 age group.
The Pumpkin Pie 5k and 10k welcome more than 2,000 runners and walkers. Here are a few photos from the event.
