Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted 267 participants of Littleton’s Firecracker 5K this past Saturday at Clement Park. The 4th of July festivities kicked off early with a fast race, prizes, refreshments, vendor village, face painting, balloons, and Omaha Steaks Gourmet Franks and Village Inn Apple Pies. The event supported Bonfils Blood Center.
The men’s 5K saw all three top three finishers hailing from Colorado Springs; 37-year old Adam Rich lead wire-to-wire, winning handily in 16:04. Coming in second was 23-year old Horan Tucker in 17:23, followed by 42-year old Andy Rinne in third in 17:28.
In the women’s race, 24-year old Jennifer Hannigan of Belleville, IL scorched the course in a winning time of 18:28. Second place belonged to 24-year old Sarah Brautigam of Littleton in 20:15, with 16-year old Delaney Gilfillan of Denver coming in a very close third in 20:21.
