Conditions could not have been more perfect for the Pumpkin Pie 5K and 10K this past Saturday, resulting in two new course records set in the 5K by Andy Wacker and Clarissa Whiting. Hosted by Colorado Runner Events, the 5K event hosted the USATF Colorado State Championship, providing a $900 prize purse for current USATF members.

In addition to the obvious pumpkin pie at the finish, participants were also treated to a finisher’s medal, swag bag, DJ’s on course and at the finish, and a post-race celebration stocked with vendors. Even the Denver Post was onsite to capture the festive morning’s events! In addition to the USATF 5K prize purse, Runners Roost gift cards were awarded to the top three finishers in five year age categories.

In the men’s 10K, Alex Diltz of Lyons set the pace early on and took top honors in 32:48. USAFA’s Jacob Hughes was second in 35:09, with Michael Oliva of Denver rounding out the top three in 35:43.

The women’s 10K saw Jocelyn Petrella-Gallagher of Denver cross the line first in 39:43. Angela Buch of USAFA was a close second in 40:08, with Haley Williamson of Colorado Springs coming in third in 41:04.

In the men’s 5K, Andy Wacker of Boulder trimmed 46 seconds off the course record, coming in first in 15:14. Not far behind was Colorado Springs’ Adam Rich in 15:38, with Boulder’s John Minen coming in a close third in 15:53.

The women’s 5K saw Boulder’s Cleo Whiting set a new course record in 17:42, only 9 seconds ahead of who we’re assuming is Cleo’s sister, Clarissa Whiting, who came in second in 17:51. Broomfield’s Samantha Calderon was a close third in 18:01.
