Over 2,000 runners, walkers and spectators converged on City Park for the 6th Annual Jodi’s Race for Awareness 5K. Benefiting the Colorado Ovarian Cancer Alliance (COCA), the event and organization’s mission is to promote awareness and early detection of ovarian cancer through advocacy and education while providing support to people affected by ovarian cancer. All funds raised support women in Colorado through COCA programs.
The morning was stocked full of activities, including the headlining 5K, 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk, Survivor Breakfast at Jodi’s Cafe, Expo Area, Family Fun Zone, Winner’s Medals, Tech Race Shirt, Dog Station, Food, Drinks, Music and more. The flat and fast course around City Park allowed for quite a few fast times.
In the men’s race, Julio Bonilla of Denver took top honors in 17:52. 16-year old Grant Norman finished second in 18:09, with 38-year old Marty Billings rounding out the top three in 18:16.
The women’s race saw Katie Chambers finish first in 19:34, with 34-year old Megan Stenbeck coming in second in 20:42. Crossing the finish line in third was Ariel Briggs of Lakewood in 21:21.
