It was a gorgeous morning in Evergreen for the Elk Meadow 5K and 10K on Saturday, the second event of the Evergreen Trail Racing Series hosted by the Evergreen Park & Recreation District (EPRD) and sponsored by the Wild Game. The series comprises five races on challenging mountainous terrain in and around Evergreen. Distances range from a 5K to an epic half-marathon (13.1 miles) to the top of Bergen Peak (elevation 9,708), a climb of over 2,000 vertical feet.
The event was small, attracting about one hundred participants across both race distances, but that didn’t stop some well-known and speedy runners from competing.
The men’s 10K race saw Jerome Perkins take the win in 41:08. Coming in second was Daniel Clark in 45:55, with Kevin Correale rounding out the top three in 47:36.
In the women’s 10K, Chris Adamowski was the women’s winner, covering the hilly course in 49:59. Kelly Lane Brown came in second in 52:24, with Julia Purrington close behind, finishing up third in 52:53.
Brandy Earholtz won the Elk Meadow 5K Trail Race on Saturday, July 11, 2015, finishing a full minute before first male finisher Tim Miller in 26 minutes and 7 seconds. Miller finished in 27:07.
The overall 5K winner was Brandy Earholtz in 26:07, beating both the men and the women. Coming in second for the ladies was Kaitlyn Morgan in 33:15, with Jessica Vastola crossing the line in third in 36:47.
In the men’s 5K, Tim Miller was first in 27:07. Matt Roybal finished second in 29:57, and David Oeser was third in 35:27.
