The 2nd Annual DreamCatcher Half Marathon featured an exciting finish between Grand Junction’s Kim Dobson and Colorado Springs’ Neil McDonagh. Yes, you heard that correctly; new mother Dobson returned to the racing scene Saturday morning for the local race that runs along the Colorado River and consists of wide paved bike paths (60%), unpaved bike paths (10%), gravel trails (10%) and country roads (20%). Needless to say, the relatively flat course boded well for Dobson, who out-sprinted McDonagh for the overall win in 1:25:46. McDonagh finished seconds later in 1:25:48.
The race is hosted by Starunner Enterprises and attracts runners and walkers of all shapes and speeds. With full course support and a 6 hour time limit, post-race party and a wide range of prizes and awards, the DreamCatcher half is quickly becoming a popular race in the Grand Junction area.
As previously mentioned, Neil McDonagh was the top male finisher in 1:25:48. Coming in second for the men was Andrew Holton of Pine in 1:29:41. Rounding out the top three was GJ resident Nicholas Duncan in 1:30:44.
Also previously mentioned was the top performance of overall winner and top female finisher Kim Dobson in 1:25:46. Second place female finisher Nicole Valentine also posted an impressive time of 1:27:02, good for third overall. Coming in third for the ladies was Golden’s Jennifer Fox in 1:43:47.
