The crisp weather on Saturday morning didn’t stop over 150 participants from running the Denver Veterans Day 5k race held at the Auraria Campus in downtown Denver. Support and participation from Metro State Army ROTC, the Colorado National Guard, the United States Army, veterans and citizens alike made the event an emotional and memorable experience. The race, which traveled through the Vietnam Memorial Wall on campus, was won by Jonathon Huie in 16:49, with second place finisher Frank Knafelc coming in at 17:35 and Curtis Pottle a close third in 17:57. The women’s race was won by Carly Moore in 23:16, with second and third place finishers Maggie Waldner and Meriel Drummond coming in at 23:58 and 24:01, respectively. Even Congressman Ed Perlmutter finished the race and showed his support to the veterans and the cause. With an individual and team option, this is definitely a race to put on your calendar for Veteran’s day next year.
