2008header2.jpgBoulder, CO (December 30, 2008) - Registration for the 2009 summer series of 5430 Sports triathlons opens on January 1. The races have all sold out early in previous years, “And, we expect the races to sell out even earlier this year,” says Barry Siff, Owner of 5430 Sports.

The 5430 Sprint Triathlon, on June 21, will be presented by Amica Mutual Insurance Company, a national provider of auto, home, marine, and life insurance. “Amica understands that to be a triathlete, athletes have to be committed, dedicated and work extremely hard to accomplish their goals,” explains Vince Burks, senior assistant vice president of Amica Insurance. “These traits are also true for how Amica conducts business everyday and has for more than 100 years.”

The 5430 Long Course Triathlon will be presented by TYR, an industry leader in swimwear and swim accessories, as well as triathlon apparel. The prize purse for the 5430 Long Course has been increased to $30,000.

The Boulder Peak Triathlon, now in its 18th year and the signature event of 5430 Sports, will be held on July 12. Already planning to race the Boulder Peak are 2008 Ironman World Champion, Craig Alexander, as well as the 2008 Ironman 70.3 World Champion, Joanna Zeiger. The race draws over 1,600 competitors, including one of the top pro fields assembled in the U.S. each year, competing for $35,000 in prize money for this Olympic Distance event.

5430 Sports is a pioneer in the athletic world for sustainable events. In 2008, the company was awarded the “Zero Waste Community Event Award” by Eco-Cycle. In receiving the award, 5430 was specifically recognized “for a strong commitment to Zero Waste planning and education and for successfully recycling and composting an average of 93% of all materials at events.” 5430 Sports will partner with Eco Cycle again in 2009 to minimize the impact of over 4500 racers at the summer triathlons, as well as over 2,000 athletes at 5430’s three summer running races.

5430 Sports is expanding its sustainability initiative by including more community outreach efforts, as well as consulting to help other races and events achieve higher rates of recycling and sustainability. In addition to those efforts, 5430 is collecting energy bar wrappers (not gels), bike tubes, and lightly used athletic apparel and shoes for reuse and recycling.

5430 Sports’ designated charity for 2009 is the Foundation Fighting Blindness, and hopes to raise $30,000 for this important cause.

Finally, in honor and memory of Howard Garcia, a dear member of 5430 Sports’ family of athletes, anyone over the age of 70 will be given free entry to the Boulder Peak Triathlon. 5430 wants to continually encourage all people, regardless of age, to keep active, keep competing, and keep “Tri’ing!
